I LOVE MY CHAIR. If you’ve not seen it in performance, it’s red and teak and beautifully crafted in an ordinary-kitchen-chair-no one-would-stop-and-gawp-at sort of way. But it’s very much the Spring Behind the Action, becoming by turns: a cornfield, a ship, a tomb, a tree, an execution site, an instrument of torture as well as…em, a chair. And, most poignantly, a resting place – the mercy seat – of the God of our dreams.
